Obstetric Anesthesia

A doctor feels a pregnant womans' stomach

More than 2/3 of women in labor choose to have an epidural to reduce the pain of contractions and delivery. East Carolina Anesthesia Associates provides around-the-clock anesthesia for women who choose to have their babies at Vidant Medical Center.  This gives us the opportunity to care for the more than 2500 women having normal deliveries, and 1200 women having cesarean deliveries each year.  We are dedicated to keeping you and your baby comfortable and safe during this special time.  ECAA advocates epidural anesthesia for labor, when appropriate, and regional anesthesia for cesarean section due to the comfort and safety they provide, as well as the added benefit of having the mother and father share in the birth experience.
