      Biography

      • Gary John Mullen grew up in Southwestern Ohio, and attended Miami University at Oxford, where he received a BA in chemistry. He attended University of Cincinnati College of medicine and received the doctor of medicine degree in 1998. After completing an internship in obstetrics, Dr. Mullen was commissioned a Lieutenant in the United States navy, where he went on to serve multiple tours as a flight surgeon; first with VC-8 ("World Famous Redtails") in Ceiba, Puerto Rico, then with Carrier Training Air Wing Two (Kingsville, TX). It was during his tour in Kingsville that Dr. Mullen was hand-selected to be the 16th flight surgeon for the United States Navy Blue Angels, for the 2003-2004 Team. He went on to conclude a mishap-free tour, which included approximately 1000 Blue Angels flight demonstrations, in over 75 cities across the United States and Canada.

      • Dr. Mullen completed his residency in Anesthesia at Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women's Hospital, in 2008. He was selected as a national FAER scholar by the Chair of his department. Upon graduating residency, he then attended the MIT Sloan School of Management as an Alfred P. Sloan Fellow, to obtain his MBA degree. While at MIT, Dr. Mullen led an entrepreneurship team to the semifinals of the 2009 MIT 100K Business Plan Competition with a technology application he helped develop involving rapid detection of disease proteins.

      • Dr. Mullen's current professional interests include human factors, product design, and commercializing the next-generation of innovative medical technologies. He is passionate about translating the clinical needs of new technologies into relevant commercial products.
